Sports

Each Year Level participates in a weekly sports session, in addition to the Physical Education lesson.

In addition the school offers programs and participates in a range of sports including:

Year 5 and 6 Interschool Sports

Swimming Carnival– Term 1 sees students from Year 3 – 6 compete in their age groups in events of their choice in either freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke or butterfly. The events are over 50m at the Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre. Students earn points for the house they are a member of. Students who swim the fastest times for their age group are then invited to represent Malvern Primary School at the District Swimming Carnival where they compete against students from other schools within the District.

Cross Country- Year 3 – 6 students spend weeks training to prepare themselves for the Malvern Primary School Cross Country day. The event takes place in Term Two. The 8/9/10 year olds run 2km and the 11/12/13 year olds run 3kms at the Central Park track. Students compete to earn valuable house points. The fastest 10 boys and girls in each age group will represent Malvern Primary school in District Cross Country event a few weeks later.

 Athletics- Throughout Terms 2 and 3 students practice their Athletics skills in the track and field events. The Athletics Carnival takes place in Term 3 at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. Students compete in track and field events including Shotput, Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High jump, Hurdles, Sprints and Middle distance running. All Year 3 – 6 students participate to win points for their House. On this day the Parents Association are kind enough to provide all students with a delicious lunch. Highlight of the day is the Year 6 fastest student in the school race, where all students cheers and support their teammates.
